what is coaching?
Coaching is a collaborative endeavour, which facilitates the learning, development and performance of an individual, promoting positive sustainable behavioural change.

The goal of coaching is to guide vision, urge excellence and unlock the individual’s true potential, through facilitating increasing awareness and accountability, and inspiring action that builds to achieve desired outcomes. Coaching also aims to reduce interference such as fear and doubt and remove barriers to learning.
Coaching involves:
-
Regular communication and meetings (face-to-face or by phone)
-
Re-evaluation of current position
-
Clearly defining personal goals, providing clarification and clear priority
-
An action-oriented focus and structure

What the coach does:
-
Facilitates self-directed learning through powerful questioning
-
Acts as an external observer ensuring the actions of the coachee are congruent with the goals they have defined.
-
Seeks to identify negative habits and beliefs to be remedied
-
Assists coachee to develop personal insight
-
Assists with motivation
-
Stretches and challenges the coachee
-
Views the coachee in terms of their potential, identifying and building on strengths and talents
Coaching provides:
-
A highly strategic structure and solutions-focused methodology for change
-
A model that breaks significant goals and perceived hurdles, into smaller achievable steps
-
Honest feedback
-
A totally non-judgmental and agenda-free environment
-
A safe sounding board
-
Accountability, assisting coaches to convert their intentions into actions
What is our approach?
At InCourage Supervision we have a unique approach to our work in the coaching space, which draws inspiration and tools from professional supervision but without some of the constraints or obligations associated with this practice. Our approach is still very much grounded in reflective practice to empower the coachee along the journey for their own learning, development, and achievement of goals.

At InCourage Supervision our working relationships are built on:
-
Equality
-
Respect
-
Trust
-
Confidentiality
-
Focused on the coachee
-
Voluntary and non binding.
-
About learning, acquiring skills, and growing capability.
You can expect as part of our professional coaching services to spend some time to define and explore:
-
Who you are, where you have come from, and where you want to go.
-
To establish and define what you expect from the coaching relationship, and what do you think each person is doing in the working relationship.
-
To identify agreed learning goals, understand the motivation behind wanting to pursue them, and defining what success looks like.
-
A negotiation of timeframes for the achievement of the goals, but also for the regularity and schedule of meeting to check in on progress and wellbeing.
-
Discussing optimized learning styles for the coachee, which align with adult learning principles. This includes an understanding of experiential learning, reflections, which is then supported by resources.
-
How do we deal with problems, difficulties, or if things get off track.
-
Building in a review period not only of goal achievement, but of the working relationship.
-
Creating an action plan with set dates.
